Union Seminary – Pathways Registration

PATHWAYS REGISTRATION FOR 2018/19 IS NOW OPEN!

The Leadership Institute at Union Presbyterian Seminary is excited to announce that registration for classes in our online Pathways to Learning and Leadership program is now available.

Who are these classes for?  Everyone!
  • Church members who want to learn in more depth about the Bible and increase their ability to teach and even preach
  • Those who are called to ministry as a Commissioned Ruling Elder and need the educational component
  • Church professionals who want to brush up or enhance the education you have already received, and learn some new things
  • Others who want to enjoy stimulating, excellent instruction from seminary professors and church professionals and interact with others who want the same thing

And the best part is, you can take these classes from the comfort of your home!  Classes are taught online, either on Tuesday or Thursday evenings from 7-9 p.m. Eastern Time for five weeks per class.  In addition, there are reading and homework assignments to be done on your own schedule for each of the classes.

The cost of the classes is only $100 per five-week session.  Take as many of the classes as you like – there are no prerequisites, and you only have to purchase one book per class.  While these classes don’t earn college or seminary credit, you do receive a certificate for participating, and of course all of that learning!

Go to our website, www.upsem.edu/pathways and check out the classes and the schedule.  A link to register for classes is also on that site. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to send me an email or give me a call.

Hope to see you online!

POV Academy: Learning Opportunity

Have you ever thought about the fact that preaching is a two-way street? Do you wonder how that can be? Have you ever wished you could learn to speak in front of a group more confidently?

If so, the POV Academy May 16-17 class, “Preaching – A Two-Way Street,” is for you. It is open to ALL people participating in POV churches, but registration closes April 11, so you’ll need to hurry. Registration forms and details may be found on the POV Academy page of the POV website. They will also be available at the POV Assembly on March 29.

Develop Your Leadership Skills!

Calling all members of POV churches: Would you like to…

  • moderate, facilitate, and participate in meetings that matter?
  • learn what nobody in the whole world can do but you, and what difference it’ll make?
  • release your fears in times of conflict, and embrace a healthy respect instead?
  • remember why the windshield of your car is so much bigger than the rear view mirror?

If so, here’s your opportunity: On November 15-17 at Pyoca, our own EP the Rev. Susan McGhee will lead the POV Academy class, Congregational Leadership. Registration closes on September 15 and space is limited, so sign up soon.

Posters and registration forms are on the POV Academy webpage.

Contact Barbara Snyder for more information.

Become a Better Leader!

Two opportunities are coming soon to enhance the leadership skills of all members of POV churches and their pastors.

There are still a few more openings in the POV Academy’s Presbyterian Polity seminar, taught by Rev. Joyce Lieberman, Associate for Constitutional Interpretation of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. Although registration officially closed July 15, as long as we have space you can still register. Our own Rev. Susan McGhee will be the leader of the Academy’s Congregational Leadership. Registration closes September 15, but it is likely to fill up before that, so get your registration form in early.

Both seminars will be held at Camp Pyoca: Polity on September 20-21 and Leadership on November 15-17. No advance preparation is necessary, although those attending will receive a brief bibliography which they might find helpful.

More details may be found on the posters and registration forms, located on the Academy webpage of the POV website. You may also contact Barbara Snyder for more information.
