NC Region Gathering for May 2012

The next North Central Region Gathering will be on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 17th at First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington from 10:00am – 2:00pm.

The program will be a presentation on “Glory to God”, the upcoming New Presbyterian Hymnal.

We will hear from leaders from Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Meg Flannigan and David Eicher (the hymnal editor).  They will have samplers of the songs that will be featured in the new hymnal (to be released Fall 2013), will answer any questions that congregations might have concerning the publication of our new hymnal.  We will be singing a number of the hymns to be included.

All congregations of the Presbytery are welcome to attend this special presentation held by the North Central Region.

Organ Concert in New Albany

St. John Church (New Albany, IN ) proudly presents Loralee Culbert, an accomplished organist from the IN University Jacobs School of Music, on Sunday, November 6, at 4:00pm.

Join us for an exhilarating organ concert followed by a light reception in Memorial Hall.

All are welcome to this free performance offered through the Chadala Music Series.

“Hear My Song!” Concert in September

On Wednesday, September 21, 2011, and Thursday, September 22, at 7:00 p.m. David and Nancy Young will present a concert of vocal music, accompanied by their son, Micah.

The concert will include works by Vaughn Williams, Gershwin, and Maury Yeston, along with songs and arrangements by MicahYoung.

The concert on Sept. 21st will be held at St. John Presbyterian in New Albany, IN.  The concert the following night will be at the Madison Presbyterian Church in Madison, IN.  Both concerts are free.  The concert at Madison will include a freewill offering to offset the cost of the new Steinway piano recently purchased for the sanctuary.

David and Nancy are both Presbyterian pastor members of POV, with broad experience in vocal performance and teaching.  Their son, Micah, is an accomplished pianist, conductor, composer, vocal coach and accompanist, and performs regularly on Broadway.  His credits include “Spring Awakening”, “Mary Poppins”, “Chicago”, “White Christmas” and “Momma Mia”.  Micah has just finished a national tour of “Guys and Dolls”, serving as its associate music director.  He is also a member of the prestigious BMI Academy for composers and lyricists.

Music Workshop at St. John United

On Monday, September 26, 2011 at 7:00pm, a music workshop will be offered at St. John United Presbyterian Church (13th & Elm, New Albany, IN) for the entire church community.

Creative Church Music Exploration along with Dr. Marilyn Keiser presents an evening workshop which will explore topics and trends in church music and suggest innovative ideas for breathing new life and new energy into music programs in today’s church.
